Shake it and Take it: Asthma Control for Kids
In this six-minute video “Shake it and Take it: An Asthma Control Video for Kids,” Lisa DiStefano, MSN, CPNP, a nurse practitioner for the University of Maryland Hospital for Children’s Breathmobile program presents an overview of asthma, including its symptoms and available treatment options. In addition, several Breathmobile patients also appear in the video to talk about what it’s like to live with asthma. These children describe what it feels like to experience an asthma attack and talk about how their medications help them control their symptoms. These children know that as long as they “shake it and take it,” the number of asthma attacks they experience will continue to go down as their quality of life continues to improve. Indonesia Celebrates World Asthma Day with New Control Test
Jaya Suprana, chairman of the Indonesia World Record Museum (MURI), and Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar, Indonesia State Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, presented a charter to the representative of the Indonesia Asthma Foundation. Presented at the National Monument in Jakarta, the award recognizes the Indonesia Asthma Foundations successful effort in initiating and conducting the assessment of the Asthma Control Test (ACT) with more than 1000 participants. The control test also sets a new record for the highest number of participants controlling their asthma together. ACT is a questionnaire with five questions about the condition of the asthma patient during the last four weeks. Filling out the questionnaire helps patients score the level of their asthma and encourages them to take corrective steps to improve their control of it. The level of public awareness on asthma control is still very low. ACT was introduced as a new method that is easy, effective and efficient in improving asthma control. [Dr Paramitha, Indonesia Asthma Foundation]: Asthma cant be cured, but it can be well controlled. At this moment of World Asthma Day 2010, we from the Indonesia Asthma Foundation hope that more asthma patients can control their asthma, so this disease does not disrupt their activities and does not cause death. Besides breaking a new Indonesian record in ACT assessment, the celebration of World Asthma Day in Indonesia included a mass gymnastic activity and kite parade …
